BHA students meet once per week for in-person classes. The school year is 32 weeks long, 16 weeks per semester. See the school calendar for more dates. Students meet on Tuesdays or Thursdays for core classes (science, history and writing); the classes are the same for both days. Your student(s) will attend core classes on either Tuesdays or Thursdays. Days are not interchangeable. If your student misses a Tuesday class, he cannot make it up on Thursday and vice versa.
Some enrichment classes, like Performing arts, meet on both days for a portion of the semester/year. High schoolers will meet on Tuesdays for core classes and Thursdays for electives.
At-home work, under parent instruction, is required in order to maintain a full and complete understanding of the material presented in each class. Classes are designed to give a full class curriculum with hands-on activities/projects reserved for in class. Parents are still the main teacher for their students. If applicable, all assignments will be given with a weekly “at-home work” schedule to help keep your student on track. It is best to pace your student throughout the week to help them retain the most information. Each class is a full course and does not need additional assignments/curriculum outside of this course to be complete but parental guidance, instructions and follow-up is necessary.
BHA offers highly academic classes for all grades. We select curriculum from solid Christian publishers. BHA strives to maintain a certain level of academic continuity in our coursework by offering the same topics in science, history, and writing; Pre-K thru 12th grade. For the 2022/2023 school year we are focusing on the physical sciences, American history, and methods of Institute of Excellence in Writing (IEW). You will see how these topics are implemented appropriately at each grade level. We know that many of our families have students in a variety of classes, and we would like to provide classes that make it simple for them to study these subjects at home.
For grades 3-12, we offer complete courses. Our teachers require assignments to be completed at home in order to progress through the semester and receive full credit for the classes. If students fully participate, there is no need for families to supplement with other curriculum in these topics.
Our teachers are highly qualified and seek to provide instruction that promotes intellectual growth, as well as develop the characters of our students. Along with great teaching, they spend time in prayer with their students weekly and bring Biblical perspective to their classes.
